Joan Schuman
Lyric radio, like the essay, tries to ask questions and impress upon the ears that something is askew for a reason. By toying with radiophonic materials and textual ephemera, I create impressionist hybrids. My curating and dialogues at Earlid are more bricolage than straightforward documentary (they are an enfoldment of sounds upon stories upon bodies and imagined museum rooms).

Daniela Cascella reveals the writer’s task in relation to sound and the body, its breathy vocalizations; and together we remix her text, F.M.R.L.: Footnotes, Mirages, Refrains and Leftovers of Writing Sound, through appropriated sounds. In this segment, part of a longer interview-remix with the author, appearing at Earlid in 2015, we land on the simple notion of a scream. Cascella has since published a new work called Singed: Muted Voice-Transmissions, After The Fire, which continues her inquiry into words, sounds and the psyche, the hushed and continuous murmurs.

Purportedly the recordings of a disgraced experimental psychologist (you decide), “Jumand” sets spoken word to eerie synths. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 2, 2023

The idea of performing destructive materials testing on audio really appeals to me. January 6 (for better or worse) brought up some dreadful feelings and memories; but it is worth listening to on loop a few times. In general, this album is well worth a few spins. The Creeping Man has easily become one of my favorite artists of 2021. Elysian Fields - KXCI 91.3 FM
